" A Piece of Sting:
Stories of the Nungarin District
This is not a history of facts and statistics, but a collection of stories about ordinary people who pioneered the Eastern Wheatbelt and managed to achieve remarkable things: The Battlers with little or no experience of agriculture or rural life, and with even less money, who carved out farms from isolated bush blocks; the Dreamers who endured droughts and plagues, global conflict and economic collapse in the hope of better days ahead; and the Ratbags who managed to keep laughing in spite of it all.
These are the people that shaped a community and influenced a region, and that is their story - or the interesting and the fun bits! It is impossible to capture entire lifetimes, but this history tells the sort of stories that are often shared over a cup of tea or a can of beer. It is not a complete history, but then, just how long is a piece of string..... "
